Connect on the game port 2001, not the query port 17777

Arma Reforger hosting in short: an Enfusion-engine dedicated server with two separate appids - the stable 1874900 (Arma Reforger Server) and the experimental 1890870 (Arma Reforger Experimental Server). Both are native on Windows and Linux, need no Wine, and are fetched with an anonymous SteamCMD login (their depot contexts are the base games 1874880 and 1890860). The three ports are independent: UDP 2001 is the game port that players connect to, UDP 17777 is the Steam A2S query port and not a join port, and UDP 19999 is the RCON port (AMP sets AdminMethod to BattlEyeRCON and AdminPortRef to it). The config file is Configs/serverconfig.json (a single JSON file), while the profile directory differs by upstream: AReforgerMaster for AMP and profiles/server for LinuxGSM. Whether RCON is on by default has two readings - the AMP template carries a full rcon block while the LGSM official config repo has rcon as an empty object - so the generator here only emits that block when you tick it explicitly. Keep the three credentials apart: rcon.password for remote administration, game.passwordAdmin as the in-game administrator password, and game.admins as an array of SteamID64 values. The official hosting documentation ships inside the server package at docs/ServerHostingDocs.bat (config.launch of both appids points there); the bistudio hosting wiki was blocked by Cloudflare this round (403), the official marketing site carries no hosting docs, and only its news/changelog pages were readable. The current stable release corresponds to 1.8.0.13 (announced 2026-09-03 11:58 UTC, 23 minutes after the server branch build stamp).

Arma Reforger Ports & Protocols
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 2001 | UDP | The game port and the one players connect to; bindPort is the local listener while publicPort is what gets advertised (they differ behind NAT) |
| 17777 | UDP | The Steam A2S query port, not a join port; gamedig distinguishes port from port_query explicitly |
| 19999 | UDP | The RCON port; AMP points AdminPortRef at it and sets AdminMethod to BattlEyeRCON. In the LGSM official config rcon is an empty object, i.e. not configured by default |

Server notes
First, a correction to what this site used to say: the old overview claimed the config lives in config.json at the server root, while AMP metaconfig states Configs/serverconfig.json (ConfigType template) and is the only source giving a full relative path. Second, on frame rate: both upstreams default to a 60 FPS cap (LinuxGSM passes -maxFPS on the command line and AMP exposes a maxFPS panel parameter), so capping is advised on that basis; but the old claim that an idle server burns a full CPU core has no official source this round and is downgraded to unverified rather than stated as fact. Third, on appid 1007: this site used to say it must be installed after SteamCMD. appinfo confirms 1007 is Steamworks SDK Redist, yet neither AMP updates.json (whose only two SteamCMD stages are 1874900 and 1890870) nor the LinuxGSM armarserver config mentions it, so the claim is kept labelled unverified - neither endorsed nor deleted. Fourth, RCON listens on UDP 19999 with AdminMethod BattlEyeRCON, and the official 1.8.0.13 announcement contains "Fixed: Crash when using vanilla scripted commands on modded server via RCON", i.e. hosts that have not updated could crash when running vanilla scripted commands over RCON on a modded server. Fifth, shutdown is #shutdown sent to the server console (AMP ExitString; # is the Reforger console prefix), and readiness is the log line ENGINE : Game successfully created. (the exact pattern AMP uses). Sixth, config changes need a restart (AMP sets SupportsLiveSettingsChanges to False). Seventh, the command-line port flags (-bindPort / -a2sPort / -a2sIpAddress) and the config-file keys bindPort / a2s.port / a2s.address set the same values, and which one wins could not be verified this round because the official hosting docs were unreachable, so keep the two consistent. Eighth, the template schema changes with the game version: the persistence block arrived in main7 and three save-retention keys in main8, while neither real host config has a persistence block, so the generator does not force the newer schema and avoids a failed start on an older server.
