serverconfig.txt~/.local/share/Terraria/Worlds/<世界名>.wldbanlist.txttshock/config.jsonThe dedicated server is app id 105600 and SteamCMD pulls it anonymously — Terraria is one of the few games whose server costs nothing extra. One TCP port, 7777, carries both game traffic and the Steam server-list query; the official wiki suggests cloud hosts (AWS/GCP) open TCP and UDP both. Everything lives in serverconfig.txt, launched with ./TerrariaServer.bin.x86_64 -config serverconfig.txt. Lines starting with # are comments, so your change must go on a new line — the classic "I changed it and nothing happened" moment. autocreate only fires when the .wld named by world does not exist yet: 1 small, 2 medium, 3 large. Worlds default to ~/.local/share/Terraria/Worlds/. On Linux the server refuses to start when $TERM is not xterm and reports "Magic number is wrong: 542" — export TERM=xterm fixes it. Run several instances and you must change three things together: config file, worlds folder and port. The biggest trap in 2026 is the version split: vanilla 1.4.5.7 / TShock 6.1.0 (on 1.4.5.6) / tModLoader still on 1.4.4, and the three are mutually incompatible — mods mean everyone stays on 1.4.4. Since 1.4.5.0 the world auto-saves when the last player leaves; since 1.4.5.7 empty servers stop ticking. On performance, the server is effectively single-threaded, so extra cores do not help and the bottleneck is always single-core clock rather than RAM; npcstream (the sync radius) is the one knob that actually changes how it feels.
