Server notes

First, a correction to what this site used to say: the old overview claimed the official guide warns against touching the misc and network sections of SettingsServer.xml. No such warning exists - the official page says the opposite, that every setting has an XML comment explaining it so it should be straightforward. The real caveats are per key: the official comments for ip and master_server_client_port are marked "(For expert users only!)", and the two GUID keys carry explicit do-not-modify and erase-if-you-copy-this-file warnings. Changing the port is a perfectly normal thing to do. Second, this game has no RCON (AMP sets AdminMethod to STDIO and AdminPortRef to 0); administration works by putting your nickname into server_operators_list, then connecting to your own server, opening the console with ~ and prefixing commands with /. Third, the server list runs through the developer Master Server rather than the Steam query protocol, so nothing built on A2S or gamedig can see it (cryofall has 0 occurrences in node-gamedig lib/games.js); you are listed only with is_public_server set to 1, and when the client runs on the same machine you may be unable to join yourself from the community list because of NAT routing - the official guide says to add localhost:6000 under Custom servers instead. Fourth, the first start must use loadOrNew or the config files are never generated; shut down with stop 60 plus a message (60 is the delay in seconds), and the official guide notes the console scrolls fast so pasting the whole line beats typing it. Fifth, the rates live in a separate Data/ServerRates.config: 71 official rates, all commented out with a leading # until you remove it, and an operator can also edit them in game via ESC and the Edit button. Sixth, the official hardware table is tiered by player count (about 30/100/200/300 players mapping to 1.5/2/2/2.5 GB of RAM) and it explicitly does not recommend 1-core machines (saving a world snapshot needs a second core) while calling more than two cores redundant (the simulation runs sequentially, networking excepted). Seventh, the game has been frozen at v1.33.1.15 since 2022-07 (the latest commit message on the official source repo is that exact version string and the client public buildid 9211694 was stamped 58 minutes earlier), while the two official wiki pages stopped at 2023-06-14 and 2021-10-11 - about nine months behind the source - so this site takes the 133 source commands as authoritative and cross-checks them against the 103 documented ones.
